Advice Column Pitch

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Why I’m writing, I want to present you with a rather unusual opportunity. You see, funnily enough I’m a quadriplegic and a writer (I type by using a head sensor), and I have a calling to write an advice column. This is something that I’ve been doing for a few years, but now I feel the pull that it’s time to grow.

I love helping people, and from previous feedback people are very appreciative of and interested in my advice. I’m certain this is because my perspective is incredibly unique. I mean, navigating this life of extreme disability for twenty years now, I’ve been to hell and back, so life alone has been an amazing teacher. Lived experience is something that I have in buckets.

But I have plenty of academic experience too. I’ve studied film and communications, am currently in my final year of a double degree in marketing and creative writing, but my most relevant studies to the advice column would be psychology and life coaching. Studying the human experience fascinates me, plus I’m very adept in health, peak performance, business studies and politics. I’m well read, I do great at trivia nights, haha.

Still, and again why I’m writing, I’m here because I love helping people. I have an abundance of knowledge and a dynamic skillset, hence I am totally equipped to handle any question thrown my way. Plus, I’m empathic, can be quite funny at times, but I think my biggest asset is that I’m an expert in adversity. I have actually studied adversity extensively for my own personal healing.

Or, for another perspective, I live in a world that not many people know about nor understand, but in terms of me being an advice columnist, herein lies its beauty. I am the ultimate reality check. Like I have absolutely everything against me yet I still manage to do a fair bit of stuff.

For example, a few years back I ran a full marathon in my w/chair; then two years ago I published my first book (again I wrote this with my head). My life definitely isn’t all glory though, actually it can get damn ugly at times, but I still get on with it. And, I’m real and honest about all of it.

Another thing, without doubt, from this twenty year period of extreme disability I now have a very unique and inspiring story to tell, which is something that I’m doing on a few other fronts. I believe I can do great things.

Now, for me to start writing for your publication, if this is something you’re interested in, I’m pretty chill and happy to work with you in whatever way we need. Do be aware though, I’m non-verbal (as I have a tracheostomy and ventilator), so written communication is often best. But I can Zoom if need be.

Okay, cool, that’s about it. Thanks again for taking the time to read my pitch.

I look forward to hearing from you. I’m sure we can create some amazing content together. Stuff that will definitely stand-out, something that your audience can gain insights from, and with any luck help people out. I’m pretty good at shifting perspectives, inciting gratitude, etc.

Cheers,
